Synopsis
The central story follows Marv, a tougher-than-nails street-fighter who has always played it his way. When Marv takes home a Goddess-like beauty named Goldie, only to have her wind up dead in his bed — he scours the city to avenge the loss of the only drop of love his heart has ever known.
Then there’s the tale of Dwight, a private investigator perpetually trying to leave trouble behind, even though it won’t quit chasing after him. After a cop is killed in Old Town, Dwight will stop at nothing to protect his friends among the ladies of the night.
Finally, there’s the yarn of John Hartigan — the last honest cop in Sin City. With just one ticking hour left to his career, he’s going out with a bang as he makes a final bid to save an 11 year-old girl from the sadistic son of a Senator… with unexpected results.
Trivia
• Filmed on location in Austin, Texas, USA.
• Jessica Simpson also auditioned for the role of Nancy Callahan.
• Both Nancy and Wendy drive cars with the license plates “LEV 311″ — Frank Miller often puts this in various stories for his “favourite girl” character in the story. The number is a nod to his wife and frequent collaborator, Lynn E. Varley, whose birthday is March 11.
• As each sequence of this film was shot separately, new cast members were added and incorporated in the stories throughout the production. In many cases separate footage were composited in post-production to look as if it were all shot the same day. For example: Marv (Mickey Rourke) takes Wendy (Jaime King) to Nancy’s (Jessica Alba) home. Jessica had not yet been cast when Rourke and King shot the scene; her footage was added in later.
• Jessica went to strip clubs as part of her research for her character. However, she said that it didn’t help because all the pro-strippers were doing “is trying to get tips”.
• Footage had been so coveted by fans before its release that when a 27-second behind-the-scenes clip appeared on “Entertainment Tonight”, it was quickly (though not officially by the show) placed on the Internet and downloaded over one million times. The raw footage featured quick shots of Bruce Willis and a scantily-clad Jessica performing in front of a green screen.
• Jessica didn’t know how racy the images of her character, Nancy, were in the comic until after she signed on for the film. The film’s script originally had several nude scenes for the character, but Jessica refused to do any nudity. Rodriguez and Miller didn’t think it was important for there to be nudity, so they didn’t care.
