• • Jessica Alba prepares to take on Broadway musical
November 29th, 2007 • Filed under News & Projects and The Love Guru

Jessica Alba has confirmed she is in talks to appear in a Broadway musical, but she admits she is terrified of treading the boards.

The Good Luck Chuck star is preparing to take the role of Karen in a revival of David Mamet’s play Speed the Plow. The role was played by Madonna in the original version in 1988.

Alba said: “I’ve been asked to do it, but it’s just talk at the minute.

It’s not really happening yet. I’m freaked out!

“I would be honoured to do it. I don’t know if audiences would even want to see me on Broadway.”

The 26-year-old actress recently finished filming The Love Guru with Mike Myers and Justin Timberlake, a movie about ice hockey players.

August 9th, 2007 • Filed under News & Projects and The Love Guru

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Jessica Alba, Verne Troyer and Romany Malco have signed on to join Mike Myers in the comedy “The Love Guru.”

The Paramount film, which marks Myers’ first original character since Austin Powers, will begin shooting next month in Toronto. It is slotted for a June 20 release.

Myers will play Pitka, an American who was left at the gates of an ashram in India as a child and raised by gurus. He moves back to the U.S. to seek fame and fortune in the world of self-help and spirituality, specializing in settling intimacy issues between couples.

His unorthodox methods are put to the test when he must settle a rift between star hockey player Darren Roanoke (Malco) and his estranged wife. After the split, Roanoke’s wife starts dating the star member of a rival team, sending her husband into a major professional skid — to the horror of the team’s owner, Jane Bullard (Alba), and Coach Cherkov (Troyer).

Marco Schnabel, who worked on “Austin Powers in Goldmember,” will direct from a screenplay written by Myers and Graham Gordy.

Alba recently reprised her role as Sue Storm in “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.” Troyer teamed with Myers on the second and third installments in the “Austin Powers” franchise, playing Mini-Me. Malco most recently co-starred in the hit comedy “Blades of Glory.”

In the film, Myers plays Pitka, an American who as a child was left at the gates of an ashram in India and raised by gurus. He returns to the U.S., where he specializes in self-help and spirituality counseling for couples with intimacy problems. But the plot thickens when a star professional hockey player and his estranged wife come for counseling, only to see the wife seek revenge by dating a star player from a rival team. That plunges her husband into a major professional skid, to the horror of the team’s owner, played by Alba.

Other additions to the cast include Romany Malco, who starred in Will Ferrell’s hit comedy “Blades of Glory,” and Verne (Mini-Me) Troyer, who plays the team’s coach.
