You might say that Jessica Alba’s got an awful lot on her plate right now, artistically and medically speaking. After just coming out in two medical thrillers back to back - Awake and The Eye - Jessica is now about to get the medical treatment for real, as a prospective new mom. In this conversation with the hot, vivacious and pretty funny star, she talks about how motherhood may change her life in major ways, the telltale signs of The Eye kind of organ transplant psychological side effects that may have something to do with pizza and roller coasters, and how she feels about the negative stuff connected with being a sex symbol.

Interview with actor Jessica Alba, and director David Moreau

The Standard Hotel in downtown L.A., is, well, kind of standard. Maybe that’s why it was chosen as our generic home base for interviewing the two leads the two directors of The Eye, a remake of a well-regarded Hong Kong thriller which was released only a few years back. There was little distract us from the task at hand – unless you factor in the stunning beauty of the lead, Ms. Jessica Alba (aka, “The Alba”).

Horror.com and a select group of genre sites were invited out by Lionsgate to check out some filming, which turned out to be The Alba exiting a cab – I have seen the finished film, and am pleased to say that that marvelous scene did not wind up on the cutting room floor. Look for it on February 1, in a theater near you.

Between scenes, Alba, her costar Alessandro Nivola (read his solo interview here), and the directing team – David Moreau and Xavier Palud, those who brought us Ils in 2006 – sat down to chat and dissect The Eye.

Article: MoviesOnline - 2008

MoviesOnline sat down with Jessica Alba at the Los Angeles press day for her new film, “The Eye,” a bone-chilling supernatural thriller that tests the boundaries of perception and reality. The movie is directed by David Moreau and Xavier Palud, the team who directed the suspenseful international hit “Them.”

Jessica plays Sydney Wells, an accomplished, independent, Los Angeles-based concert violinist who is also blind and has been so since a childhood tragedy. As our story opens, Sydney undergoes a double corneal transplant, a surgery she has waited her whole life to have, and her sight is restored. After the surgery, neural ophthalmologist Dr. Paul Faulkner (Alessandro Nivola) helps Sydney with the difficult adjustment, and with the support of her older sister Helen (Parker Posey), Sydney learns to see again.

But Sydney’s happiness is short-lived as unexplainable shadowy and frightening images start to haunt her. Are they a passing aftermath of her surgery, Sydney’s mind adjusting to sight, a product of her imagination, or something horrifyingly real? As Sydney’s family and friends begin to doubt her sanity, Sydney is soon convinced that her anonymous eye donor has somehow opened the door to a terrifying world only she can now see.

Jessica Alba on Sharks, Acting Underwater, and “Into the Blue”

Jessica Alba Describes the Appeal of “Into the Blue:” “It’s suspenseful. It’s a great date movie and it’s absolutely beautiful. If you love the water – or if you don’t know anything about the water – you’re going to really enjoy this movie. The cinematography is second to none.”

Jessica Alba on Playing a Shark Trainer: “I was terrified. I’m scared of sharks. I actually have a lot of bad dreams about sharks so it was a terrifying thing that I had to overcome.”

The Secret to Overcoming Her Fear of Sharks: “I told my grandmother to pray for me every day.” That must have worked as Alba is around to talk about the film. Laughing, Alba confirmed, “And all my limbs are here – thank God.”

Jessica Alba on Feeding Sharks: “I fed nurse sharks, which suck in the fish.
They don’t have teeth and they’re not like regular sharks.”

Did She Know She’d Be Doing So Much Work Underwater?: “Yes, I did. I knew 60% of the movie was going to take place underwater. I just didn’t know how could it was going to be. It was freezing.”

Jessica Alba on the Scariest Shark Moment: “The scariest experience with the sharks was everyday. I mean, they’re wild sharks being feed all around us. They don’t know your limb from a fish tail. You always had to watch your back and make sure that a shark didn’t confuse you for a fish tail.”

Jessica Alba on the Difficulties of Acting Underwater: “It’s just a different beast altogether. I had big lips already so when I put that mask on, I looked really silly. I just tried to look as not silly as possible, which I didn’t achieve. I looked silly. I admit it. I don’t even care (laughing).”
